Recall of more than 48,000 China-made infrared saunas

Announced September 17, 2026 by the U.S. CPSC and Health Canada

About 48,300
infrared saunas
recalled in the
U.S. and Canada

In September 2026, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Health Canada announced a recall of about 48,000 imported infrared saunas over a fire risk. The Chinese manufacturer – Sauna360 – builds for online sellers including Costco and Radiant Health. It issued an immediate “Stop Use” directive for their saunas sold under the names Finnleo, Tylo, Helo, Radiant Health, Saunatec, and Amerec since January 2013. The remedy is to visit each customer’s home and put new circuit boards and fuses on each of the 48,000 saunas.

The recalled saunas were sold from May 2013 through July 2026 at Costco stores, Costco.com, pool and spa dealers and other online sites, for $6,000 to $13,000. All are made by Sauna360 and sold under the Finnleo, Tylo, Helo, Saunatec, Amerec and Radiant Health names. Radiant Health Elite and Pause models are included. The CPSC notice lists China as the place of manufacture and Sauna360, Inc. of Cokato, Minnesota as the importer.

Most infrared saunas sold online are imported
from Asia

Most online brands are imported resellers, not builders. Country of origin changes more than a label: it changes the wood, the heater, and who is accountable for safety.

Why the manufacturing location matters

When a sauna is built overseas, the wood typically crosses the ocean twice: once as raw timber, once as a finished cabin. Some species require fumigation before they’re allowed to cross the border at all. And the electrical safety standards that took generations to develop in North America don’t automatically travel with the shipment.

Plywood construction is common in imported units because it’s fast and cheap to produce. The tradeoff is that plywood is bonded with adhesives that can off-gas when heated in an enclosed space — the opposite of what you want in something you sit inside to sweat. SaunaRay uses solid basswood planks with no veneer, laminate, or adhesive, finished by hand with Canadian beeswax.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about safety, materials, and EMF.

Q: Are SaunaRay infrared saunas part of the recent safety recalls?

No. SaunaRay saunas are completely unaffected by active safety recalls. Every unit is handcrafted locally in Collingwood, Ontario to strict North American electrical safety standards.

Q: Why does SaunaRay use solid basswood instead of cedar or hemlock plywood?

Many imported saunas use hemlock plywood bonded with urea-formaldehyde resin, which can off-gas toxins when heated. SaunaRay uses only solid, 3/4-inch FSC-certified Ontario basswood planks finished with pure beeswax, ensuring a completely non-toxic, hypoallergenic environment.

Q: Do SaunaRay ceramic heaters emit high EMF?

No. While some imported carbon fiber panels report electromagnetic fields (EMF) as high as 70 to 90 milligauss, SaunaRay’s solid ceramic heat elements test at an ultra-low 0.2 milligauss well below strict safety guidelines.
