About

Founded by Award-Winning Journalists

SaunaRay was founded in 2003 by Patricia Naylor and Rodney Palmer — two Canadians who came to manufacturing from distinguished careers in journalism.

Before launching SaunaRay, Rodney Palmer served as a foreign correspondent for CTV News, reporting from India, China, and the Middle East. Patricia Naylor directed documentaries for CBC, Discovery Channel, and PBS Frontline World, receiving the Amnesty International Human Rights Award for Media.

When Patricia faced serious health challenges, infrared sauna therapy became central to her recovery. That experience raised a question: could a healthier, better-built infrared sauna be manufactured in Canada?

Manufacturing Infrared Saunas in Canada Since 2003

In 2003, infrared saunas were unfamiliar to most North Americans. Mostly Chinese imports were on the market — built with wood veneers, formaldehyde glues, low-quality heaters and high EMF.

Drawing on their research skills, Patricia and Rodney sourced superior materials and began manufacturing infrared saunas at home. Every SaunaRay unit is handcrafted from solid Ontario Basswood and finished with pure Canadian beeswax. SaunaRay has never used — and will never use — carbon composites, formaldehyde glues, chemical fire retardants, or fibreglass.

The integrity that shaped their careers in journalism continues to shape every infrared sauna we manufacture — for families, health professionals, and gyms across Canada and the United States.

More than two decades later, our principles remain unchanged: careful research, honest materials, and craftsmanship that lasts a lifetime.
